Anime Expo, Including Power Rangers and Ponies

So this last weekend, I was at anime expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Its been here for a few years and its not too far from where I live. My favorite part is the exhibit hall, where I spend tons of hours walking around and seeing everything they have for sale. I did get to see a few panels again this year like the funimation sneek peak and some others. I was not excited about the guest list this year so the exhibit hall was where I was at mostly. Its very hard to find items from older anime which I prefer, but I do love shows like one piece and I was not disapointed at the items they had from it. I was lucky to find the 3 slayers try anime books while searching through a big box so I was happy! I got to troll around the artist alley and picked up a slayers pic there as well!! One guest I was excited to see and lucky to get a chance to meet was the seiyuu of Piccolo from DBZ-  Toshio Furukawa! He's also the voice behind Ace from One Piece and many others. He was in the exhibit hall and I was able to get his autograph and a pic with him. He was super nice. On my badge this year, my nickname was Monkey D. Luffy from One piece and when he saw it, he recognized the name and said Luffy, and I said Hai! It was soo awesome!!

I like looking at all the cels they have and I saw a few slayers ones which were awesome to see! Also in the exhbit hall and has been for a few years now, booths selling vintage items from shows like rainbow brite, care bears and my little pony. He also had old lunchboxes from diffferent shows and some older comics too. The cast of one of the older seasons of the Power Rangers were there as well!! Some booths had no anime items at all. Some had jewerly and clothes so its become a different scene to me. Even some cosplayers were from characters from comic books and or other shows entirely- Disney movies, video game characters, even santa claus was there!  I don't mind but I heard some people talking in front of me while in a line saying that they didn't like it and thats what comic con and other comic book conventions are for. Cosplay is also big and I saw a majority of them from one piece, some sailor moon, naruto, utena, hettalia and yugioh which was surprising to me as I thought it wasn't that big anymore. I did see a xellos cosplay so that made me happy. No Lina this year though..... Not alot of free stuff being handed out this year so that was a bummer compared to last year. Overall, fun!!

it was fun! i wish i was able to go to others because it seems the smaller cons get better guests! If your able, you should try and go to one near you if there is! we need more slayers stuff!!! enjoy your vacation as well!! how long will you be gone?

Yeah, hopefully I'll get to go to one near me sometime! (I'm always busy when they take place because... well... I'm always busy! DX)
But if I go, I'd definitely want to cosplay Slayers! That'd be so awesome! More Slayers!!!

We've been gone exactly one week from today, and we're going to be gone two more weeks, then I get home for a little less than a week, and I leave home for another week. *whew* Is is bad that I'm tired already? Q_Q
But thanks!

WOOO! Cosplay icon!

I wish I could have gone with you (I hope we have better luck next year). It looks like it was fun.

It's so cool that you got to meet Furukawa in the dealers' room and talk to him! That must have been such a thrill!

Those Flynn and Rapunzel cosplayers are so pretty! I wish I could have seen them in person.
And I'm not surprised that there's tons of MLP merchandise in the dealers room. The new MLP reboot is spreading like a virus in EVERY fandom. XD

I can kinda understand why some con-goers are bothered by all the non-anime stuff. But I'm glad it's there. I'm not as crazy about anime as I was when I was a teenager. And the few shows I love enough to buy oodles of merchandise for are so old/obscure that it's hard to find ANYTHING related to them. So having a few booths selling Disney stuff or 80s toys are nice to have. Especially the booths that sell Japanese Disney capsule toys (those things are AMAZING!).

Re: WOOO! Cosplay icon!

it was fun and i wish you could have gone but hopefully next year! im thinking about going to pacific media expo in november. ive been to it twice. its a smaller con in la so maybe if i do, you can come if you like!

Meeting Furukawa was great! its was so unexpected too as his panel was on friday and i wasn't able to go so i thought i would miss him entirely. While walking in the exhibit hall, i passed by a booth and saw him signing and taking pics. i freaked out! So i quickly got in line^^ He was one of the guests they got that was good! the rest, i was not familiar with. They should try and get more seiyuu! Japanese seiyuu but some engish actors are great! Crispin Freeman was there too! I met him a few years ago and it was great meeting him too! He was very friendly and enjoyed talking about his work and slayers! I have not seen the japanese capsule toys from disney.... I haven't seen alot of the new anime out. Besides keeping up with one piece which is the only one that is currently airing that im watching. i lost track of what episode of naruto shippuden i was on and i stopped watching bleach when it was in the fillers. i did see full metal alchemist brotherhood which was i really liked. I mostly watch alot of the older stuff and ill go into series again with my brother. Recently we finished all of sorcerer hunters- remember i bought the series at the once great store in ontario mills... Ill go back and watch kenshin, inu yasha, tekkman blade i still need to finish and others. I think i enjoy the older anime more than the newer, though if the story is good, ill check it out.

Re: WOOO! Cosplay icon!

I've never been to Pacific Media Expo (is it held in LA, too?). A November con would be cool because my birthday is in November. So our con outing could double as a birthday party! LOL

The only current anime I'm following is FMA:Brotherhood. Like you, I usually seek out the older, out-of-print stuff when I shop in anime dealers' rooms. Mainly, the stuff I remember watching when I was a teenager.

Your Furukawa story reminds me of the time I ran into Vic Mignogna in the hall on my last AX trip. I literally bumped into him while we were both dashing through an empty hallway. I said something along the lines of "Dude you rock!" and reached out to shake his hand.

He replied by saying this (in a super fast voice), "I'm in a big hurry but it's so nice to meet you, hon! Bye!"
And then he gave me a HUGE bear hug!

It was a little awkward (all I wanted was a handshake); but I guess he assumed I was one of those nutty fangirls who always glomp him at conventions. :P
